Surrounded by still-life birds

Hi all. We really appreciate what you are trying to do to help Katsue—and us. Today we stopped and bought fresh ears of corn among these bushes-clipped-into-bird –and-other-shapes (first picture below—note the close up bird-bushes and the ones on the horizon). Kandie and I left early in this morning to scout and size up the camping spot for the Young Women’s Summer Camp. Then we returned, opened the Center, taught an English class together, met with and taught investigators, visited with YSA, met with our Stake Presidency and others, and will probably fall asleep before making it to our bed.

The camping spot is near the top of the mountain directly behind Kandie (second picture below), and is wild and beautiful—surrounded by steaming Yellowstone-like fumaroles, sulfur gases, and hot springs. We will be camping in our tent along with the Young Women as part of one of our YSA service projects. We recruited the YSA to support Summer Camp and be part of the leadership. Due to this and Kandie’s valuable input, there will be a much more elaborate and well planned set of activities than before, we are being told. We found an archived set of Becky’s summer-camp pictures on this lap top, and along with the pictures Donna and Becky sent of bead necklaces, made them into a slide show for training. The slides were a real hit, and expanded the thinking and planning.

Back to the third (last) picture, below. At the same stop, the Japanese woman looking at the deer (bottom) is like most women in Japan—shielded from the sun with umbrella, hat, long sleeved blouse and long pants. Sun tans are not prized. The deer are some of the same deer seen in SLC’s Hogle Zoo, but they (along with monkeys) live wild here. Love, Dad (Keith)
