Our Apartment building
The Japanese characters by our apartment tell the name of the apartment building: Jyo-shi-dai-mae Sunshine. It means "Sunshine Apartments which are in front of the Women's University." We assume that the campus which is directly across the street to the east was once a women's university.
If you zoom out you can see the chuch building and parking lot. We are on the very north end of the west wing of the apartment building. When we look out of our windows at the end of our apartment, we can look down at the church parking lot.
If you zoom out three times, you can see our 7-11 in the bottom right corner, where we walk nearly every day. They have great salads and am pan (a sweet bean filled roll). Dad prefers to eat at 7-11 to eating at McDonalds!
We also have a McDonalds close by. $5.00 for a hamburger, but you can choose a shrimp burger if you want. The elders say it is quite good.

After 31 years of teaching at the University of Idaho, we felt it was time to retire so that we could fulfill a long time dream of missionary service. We felt we would be called to Japan, and we were delighted when the call actually came. We have been in Kumamoto city, Kumamoto state, Japan since Jan 12, 2008. Our five children, 1 daughter-in-law, 3 sons-in-law and 12 grandchildren help maintain this blog for us. We appreciate all of your support. This is an amazing experience.
